Inventory need and solution
In the municipality of Vihti, up-to-date information on street and outdoor lighting systems was incomplete for a long time. Maintenance engineer Teemu Majaniemi says "Previously we did not have reliable information about what we own and a properly controlled overall picture was missing." In order to improve the situation, it was decided to carry out a comprehensive inventory of the entire lighting network, which included both street and sports venue lights and street light centers. The inventory brought Vihti municipality a significant benefit: now the municipality has a clear overall picture of all light points and their maintenance needs.

Why C2 SmartLight?
C2 SmartLight was a natural partner to carry out the inventory, as the company's smart lighting solutions have already proven their functionality at Vihti's sports venues. The choice was also influenced by C2 SmartLight's flexibility, experience in similar projects, cost efficiency and good inventory tools. "We have implemented several similar projects, so we know what a successful inventory requires and how to implement it smoothly," says C2 SmartLight's sales manager Jani Lind. In addition, the company's ability to bring a broader, municipal-level overall picture of the lighting infrastructure was a decisive factor.

The objectives and results of the inventory
The main goal of the inventory was to comprehensively control the lighting points and their control. Now the municipality has up-to-date information on its 6,000 lighting points, about a third of which have been updated to led luminaires. Likewise, a third of Vihti's street light centers have C2 SmartLight control devices, and the updating work continues.

Based on the information obtained through the inventory, old obsolete control systems were dismantled. These systems were problematic for management and electrically hazardous, as the failure of a single center affected large areas. Additionally, as a result of the inventory, the fuse sizes of the centers could be specified more accurately, which reduced Vihti's electricity bill.

Smooth cooperation and expert service
According to Teemu, the cooperation with C2 SmartLight has been excellent. Technical support has been valuable to the municipality and Jani acts as an important contact person for Teemu in all practical matters. Majaniemi praises the fact that service and guidance is always available when it is needed.

Easy software and add-ons
In Vihti, the C2 SmartCity control solution is in use, enabling easy and real-time management of lighting. The software add-on, C2 SmartInventory, provides the municipality with a comprehensive view of the condition and location of lighting assets on a map. "Now we know the state of our infrastructure, which significantly facilitates planning," Teemu describes. He also appreciates the system's usability: "I can turn the lights on from my phone on-site even during the day. This allows for checking the light points before handover," he notes, referring to the ease of mobile maintenance control.

Continuance and future prospects
The inventory has given Vihti a clear basis for developing its lighting in a long-term and environmentally friendly way. The goal is that by 2027, the municipality's entire lighting will have been updated to led technology, which will bring even greater energy savings and environmental benefits.

Jani Lind sees Vihti as an inspiring and demanding partner: "Vihti has a can-do attitude, and people work there who really know what they want to achieve and know how to demand the right things from us too." He adds with a smile: "Every time Nummela starts to show, you have to pull a sweatband on your head - it's happening so fast there now."
